Here we are folks! I'm sitting in the 4ZZZ Community Engagement hotseat for a final few days, and this is my last Zedletter for you all! As dubbed by the adorable people of Zed, this has (apparently) been "2022 year of Matt Hsu". I'm handing the torch over to someone incredible that I absolutely adore and am in awe of, to take up the mantle. I can't wait for you find out who it is! (that news will come next week!)
It's been an absolute pleasure spending time with you all in this space, being able to relish the yum treats of Meanjin's music and arts together with you all.
I'm so proud to have been one of many hands shaping the music/arts culture of the place we all love, alongside the incredible passionate humans of Zed (thank you my found family, thanks for trusting me with being part of representing this beautiful thing we call 4ZZZ).
I've loved being part of our city's beacon of inclusivity, DIY spirit and grassroots arts. Every Zed day, I relished shining a light on the diverse and wonderful people that make up our station and the city we represent. 4ZZZ has always been a megaphone for marginalised voices, and what that meant in 1975 or 1995 is different to what it means today. It's been incredible to help our station to reflect that diversity of Meanjin we live in now, and represent the intersectional experiences of young people shaping this city with their own hands.
I'll be diving deeper into music making in the new year, as a composer at La Boite taking my Obscure Orchestra sensibilities to the theatre. I'll also likely be eating loooots of ramen and chips most likely, so see you around the yum eateries of Meanjin (you'll most likely find me at Fry Chicken Master Sunnybank or Taro's Ramen).
I hope 2023 brings you something to dive into wholeheartedly, whether it be friendship, family, projects you love, taking moments to slow down, making your corner of the world better for people you love, or just making more space for yourself to enjoy things you choose to.
