Speaking of prizes, once we’ve finished wrapping up some things on our end, (pulling names out of hats) I’ll put the winners in the next Zed Letter. I’m sure you are all thirsty to know if you’ve won!

Thank you to George Levi for the absolutely gorgeous Radiothon art. Also a HUGE hug & high five to all our amazing volunteers and staff for pulling so many hours making sure the good word of Zed spreads across all the land. We had so much fun and there were some really awesome moments.

I especially loved our Bushcare Bash at Norman Park Bowls with live performances from The Dog Trackers, Kill Pill, Queerbait, Not Telling, and Whoroboros as well as cleaning up our environment in Rollo Park and the surrounding areas. I learnt a lot about our native bushland and waterways thanks to Dave from EcoRadio. Here are some photos below from the day.

In between all the fun in the sun and on air shenanigans our social media featured some really awesome moments. One of them is some incredible footage from the marine life of Minjerribah saying don’t forget to subscribe and support 4ZZZ.

If you want more faces of Zed from Radiothon heading over to our Instagram we have two highlight reels that have saved all of our favourite moments. You can click right here to watch them back.

And finally, thank you to all the musicians, artists, misfits, weirdos, and freaks for keeping us on air for another year, we love you.

This week on Right Here Right Now Seja was in the house! It was so lovely to have them in AND perfect timing with our Album of The Week.

🥁 AOTW | Seja - Here Is One I Know You Know 🥁

From the AOTW Committee - "For one whole decade we've been waiting for another album from local musician @sejavogel, and it's worth the wait. 'Here Is One I know You Know' brims with all the synth pop goodness one would expect from a Seja record. We've already been charmed with the singles 'All Your Sorries' and 'Home', both incidentally featuring prominently on Zed playlists. Seja is a much loved local musician and longtime followers of the scene would remember her former band Sekiden. This continues the legacy. Hail the synthesizer!" The third album from Seja Vogel is both a leap in production and an ode to analogue and the beloved synthesizers she has spent the last 20 years in dedication to. Recorded expertly in her home studio in Brisbane, it is a dense collection of squelchy synths, drum machines and computer bongos overlaid with her signature mellifluous vocals. The songs on Here is One I Know You Know reflect the broad influence of an artist deeply in love with her instrument and an expansive appreciation for the breadth of synthetic music history coupled with a true talent for sparkling pop songwriting. Sometimes in juxtaposition to the luminous melodic vocals, the album’s production swims freely from swirling, celestial dreampop to pulsating psychedelic, krautrock funk, to dark, almost menacing 80’s inspired soundscapes, all transmitted through the prism of Seja’s personal, often humorous and ultimately delightful songcraft. “I was listening to a lot of Harmonia and Brian Eno, as well as Yellow Magic Orchestra and was really loving the relationship between their layered electronic and acoustic instruments. I tried to sing and write from the heart without masking the meaning behind metaphors.”
