πŸ“» Our Friends Down South πŸ“»

Heeeeey! It’s your friendly neighbourhood Zed Community Engagement Coordinator here, for the past two weeks I’ve been hanging out in a different neighbourhood - Melbourne/Naarm! Both myself (Ez) and Cai (from Tranzmission) had the pleasure of popping in to visit some of our close community radio friends from; PBS, 3CR, JOY, and 3RRR!

We went on station tours and had long chats with community about all the highs and lows affecting them. It was a really exciting and informative visit.

If you’re ever down in Melbs you should definitely pop in and say hi, buy some merch, or subscribe even! We’re all a part of ONE BIG FAMILY amplifying voices of our community from all over the country.

Here are some photos and some stickers/pins from our visits!

πŸ‘‹ 4ZZZ | Volunteering Queensland πŸ‘‹

The delightful troupe Salty, Owen, and station dad Stocky attended a Volunteers Queensland event today Building Inclusive Connections where our beloved Salty spoke about 4ZZZ’s plan to become a more accessible space for the community.

This is all part of the 4ZZZ Disability Engagement Project which aims to increase the representation of people living with disabilities within 4ZZZ both volunteering off air as well as on air.

Salty has put together a form CLICK HERE so that we can work out how best to accommodate your needs so we can get you into the station!

✊🏽 Radio Reversal | Colonial Violence & Indigenous Resistance from Gaza to Gadigal ✊🏽

Today’s episode of Radio Reversal provides you with powerful, tough, essential reminders of both the scale of colonial violence unfolding globally at the moment, and the power of Indigenous resistance.

They played excerpts from several speeches from two recent protests, the Stop Black Deaths in Custody rally that took place in King George Square on Saturday, 7 October, and the Free Palestine rally from last Friday night

TW - Trigger Warning: Some of this content can be pretty triggering for people who’ve experienced racialized violence at the hands of colonial nation-states.

That said, we think it’s really important to talk about this stuff, even when it makes us uncomfortable, because all non-Indigenous people on this continent are to some extent complicit in colonialism and the dispossession of First Nations peoples, so we have an obligation to think deeply about how we can push back against injustice and racial capitalism.

Come along to the next Palestinian Justice Rally

THIS SATURDAY 21st OCTOBER at 2pm in King George Square.

And if you want to learn more about the ongoing struggle for Indigenous justice on this continent, especially in the aftermath of the Referendum, head along to Jagera Hall in Musgrave Park this Saturday 21st October at 11am for a public conversation about where the movement goes from here.

πŸ₯ AOTW |  Porpoise Spit - Don't Quit πŸ₯

From the AOTW Committee - "Melbourne's Porpoise Spit blew our collective banana socks off recently when they played in our carpark as part of the Sounds Like Community Radio Day. It foreshadowed this impressive album 'Don't Quit'. Full of all the pathos built up during the pandemic - frayed rock played intensely loud. Singles such as 'Struck' have already received healthy play on the Zeds. We look forward to when they play these climes again."

❓ Zed Trivia | ARTofficial TruthMachine❓

Our wonderful Sponsorship Coordinator, Sass was out and about this week in Sydney/Gadigal and found an AI vending machine called The ARTofficial Truth Machine. Created by Australian artists James Brown and Dave Court, who worked with the University of Adelaide’s Australian Institute for Machine Learning (AIML) to create this AI art vending machine that when you engage in conversation with it - generates an individualised piece of art that’s based on the machine’s opinion of you – and rewards some folk with a pack of native seeds.

“Most vending machines items are bad for you. However, this machine seeks connection, vending seeds of rare native plants and free digital artwork,” James says. - from citymag

So naturally, Sass asked it to compose a poem about 4ZZZ.

And here you have it - “Community radio, humble yet rich; Driven by heart, not wealth.”

If you’d like some more Zed Trivia why don’t you listen to the 4ZZZ Podcast - From A to Triple Z.
