Welcome to 4ZZZ’s weekly newsletter for announcers and volunteers.
It can be difficult to keep on top of all of the missives that 4ZZZ HQ disseminates week to week, so in the interest of keeping your inboxes under control and our messaging clear, we’ll be doing our darndest to compile all of our comms into one weekly mailout.
Obviously there will be exceptions from time to time, but consider The Newsletter Formerly Known As your Monday afternoon treat (named so because we expect you to be able to
regurgitate the information herein).
Hello you bunch of stars,
Hope you are all taking care of yourself in the heat and make sure you are staying hydrated as it is sizzling out there.
I am loving the messaging around the Hot 100 because it seems like every show is getting involved and pushing it out there.
The subscriber plugs which people are giving around the Hot 100 (mentioning the Double Weighting for subscriber votes) is showing a result with Sub Numbers up from this time last year which is great.
However you like to spend the holidays make sure you are taking care of yourselves and checking in with your communities out there.
Hats off to the Locked In crew who will be broadcasting all day on the 25th reading out letters from the VIPs providing a connection to people on a tough day.
Looking forward to hanging out with everyone at the Hot 100 Hangout at The Triffid to celebrate a great year of independent music.
Catch of the Week: Culture Vultures
A great show from Kat on Culture Vultures this morning filled with love for their show neighbours and a reminder that there is something for everyone on 4ZZZ.
What I really loved was Kat’s reminder that Christmas is not always the best time for everyone and Kat read a great quote for those who might need to hear it.
Sub Plug of the Week: Know Idea
Going to give the three points to Know Idea who smashed it out of the park with their sub plugs last week.
Max and Jay started off by dazzling us with science before reminding people all this radio knowledge is being delivered by volunteers and directed people to the website as they ran through the different subscription options.
It reminds listeners all the awesome work you produce in the shows is done for the love of the community and that it should be supported. If you want to learn more about mosquitoes and why they love nostrils?
Check it out!
Most Played on Zeds/ Talking Zeds / RHRN
Here we go! the coveted most played this week on 4ZZZ.
Local garage psych rock Arugula took out the top spot this week. CityPiss took out number 2 ahead of their reunion last weekend. DIAL took out the bronze this week with their self titled EP.
Can you believe there were 9 new entries in the top 20 this week? Unheard of behaviour this close to the end of the year.
On Talking Zeds this week Ian Powne will be chatting with the enigmatic frontman of Custard (and recent Adele Pickvance collaborator) Dave McCormack.
Featuring on the final RHRN this week will be ArtemisV performing a solo set which will be a treat for the ears so check it out.
CMTO Training Open
The applications for the Audio Ability Accessible Mentoring and Training program at the CMTO are now open!
Audio Ability is a free 16-week blended learning program that offers training and mentorship to people with disability who are interested in working in radio.
Feel free to get in contact if you would like to learn more about the program and you can read more here: https://cmto.org.au/latest/audio-ability-call-out-2024/
Hot 100 Hangout!
The Hot 100 is just around the corner and we will be hosting the official Hot 100 Hangout at The Triffid.
Broadcasting live from 12pm everyone is welcome including your dogs!
As a note our underage friends will have to leave at 5pm and dogs will have to be off site by 7pm.
Will be a great day to hang out and catch up so bring your friends and hangout.
Keep your emails open soon if you are keen to help out on the day.
Bonanzzza this Saturday
This Saturday some great 4ZZZ elves will be looking after the reception for our Bonanzzza!
A 1 day shopping opportunity on the 23rd of December from 10-4pm.
It is a last minute chance for people to jump in and get some Zed merch to give to their loved ones.
Or if you just want to flex with a new stunning 4ZZZ shirt over the season, now is the time.
We have had a callout from the CRN about the potential for more shows to get onto the CRN and have their program be a part of their schedule.
There are a few steps you have to go through so get in touch if that is something you think you’d like to do.
Just a reminder that you need to get in touch if you are keen to use Studio 3 so as to not interrupt recordings done by our production team.
If you are needing to host a meeting or use the space, get in touch.
How To Reach Me
As this is most likely the last newsletter before a few days off with the public holidays I wanted to let you all know how to reach me!
In case of emergencies feel free to call me, my number is up in the studios and around the walls at Zed.
If there is something you need to find out that day you can text or send a message on slack.
If it can wait and it’s not time pressing send an email (which i’ll monitor) and I can get back to you after the public holidays.
A wonderful 4ZZZ Subscriber has left a big box of goodies to be given out to Zed Vollies.
To make this fair we think it is first in best dressed.
Come find me at the desk and I can draw a raffle ticket to give you a prize.
Thanks for playing along! If you have any big interviews, noteworthy subs shoutouts or particularly heroic volunteering work that deserves a shout out, let me know by emailing email@example.com by 2pm Mondays. Got any burning questions about the studio, station policy or other FAQs? Check the
4ZZZ Wiki out, if accessing from outside of the station use the following loging credentials: zeduser / 4zzzrules. Have a great week connecting and amplifying the voices of our local communities!
