Welcome to 4ZZZ’s weekly newsletter for announcers and volunteers.

It can be difficult to keep on top of all of the missives that 4ZZZ HQ disseminates week to week, so in the interest of keeping your inboxes under control and our messaging clear, we’ll be doing our darndest to compile all of our comms into one weekly mailout.

Obviously there will be exceptions from time to time, but consider The Newsletter Formerly Known As your Monday afternoon treat (named so because we expect you to be able to  regurgitate the information herein).

It’s your favourite time of the week! 4ZZZ volunteer newsletter time! There’s all the usual good bits, plus some extras!

We are a week away from a station meeting, but we’ve moved the time forward to 6pm for that. Check the full details on that below. It’s well worth your while to check the updated time because you know if you rock up late you’ll cop it.

There’s also the link to grab tickets to Locked In’s 40th Birthday, so get into that! It’s going to be a massive day!
Finally, we need your help spreading the word for our Birthday Party on the 8th of December. Read on to see where to find the poster for a guerilla run.
That's it! Hit me up with any questions while you've still got me (you'll get to direct them to Jack in a couple of weeks!).

Catch of the Week - I Spy

As the new grid approaches we’re preparing to welcome some new shows, but that means farewelling some old favourites. One such fave that is ending is I Spy, with Nej ducking out early with the last show last week.

It was a hell of a way to go out too. What started with the smoothest transition out of Smooth Operator (the last track from Brisbane Line) into some Squigenini I’ve ever heard led into two hours of incredible tunes that Nej has picked up during their time at zed.

Nej also made a lovely statement of support for the people of Palestine and encouraged people to head along to the protest yesterday, holding 4ZZZ’s legacy of great music and political action up high.

(As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, you’re very welcome to share your thoughts on what’s happening, just make sure what you’re talking about is accurate. If you’re worried about anything or want some more clarity, have a read through the CBAA Codes of Practice or send me a message so I can help you get what you want to say across).

I Spy has been a highlight of my week the entire time I’ve been manager. I love the tunes and the energy that Nej broadcasts across the city (and brings into the station). I’m very sad the show is ending, but relieved we’ll still catch Nej with the Full of Air crew on Saturdays down the line.

If you missed the show last week, jump in here to give your Monday a bit of a bump.

Sub Plug of the Week - The Brown Couch

Just after 4:20 last week on The Brown Couch there was an outstanding sub plug from Paulie and Ben

It was a really nice and natural one. I missed how they got into it, but my ears pricked up as I heard Ben extolling the virtues of supporting 4ZZZ.

Paulie jumped in and talked through a few categories, with Ben shouting out the website and both fellas talking up why we need listener support - it keeps the tunes coming, the aircon on and everything else at 4ZZZ ticking over.

These two have so much love for zed that makes these pitches sound really natural and engaging. They’re not doing anything special, they’re only talking about what they love about zed and why it’s worth supporting, which you can do too. Just be yourself!

Album of the Week - Perve Endings with Better Than I Have Been

Here we go! Album of the Week - The Perve Endings with Better than I Have Been

Here’s the word from the AotW committee:

"Locals Perve Endings have long featured on 4ZZZ playlists. It's exciting to feature this latest release from them - 'Better Than I Have Been'. It's a lighters in the air slice of alternative pop that 90s kids will devour. Single '20 Something' has already been in high rotation, we expect you'll enjoy the rest of the EP just as much."

The Blankette’s, our album of the week last week, took our the number one spot, with this week’s AotW coming in number two. Girl and Girl rounded out the top three, which starts off a really solid top 20.

Station Meeting next Wednesday - UPDATED TIME - 6PM!

Trying to schedule anything at zed is a nightmare and station meetings are no exception. We had arranged our meeting next Wednesday for 6:30pm, but we’re moving that forward because Devo are playing the same night.

That means the Station Meeting is now at 6pm, Wednesday the 29th of November, at Zed Towers and on Zoom.

As has become tradition, we will have snacks and drinks available for you if you attend in person, so come along!

New 4ZZZ Board Members

Thanks to everyone who came along to the AGM last week. It was a bit of a bumper event with over 100 votes cast to elect our board.

We saw a number of current board members re-elected, with Andrew Ross, Anthony Rutherford, Ben Ryan and Ruth Gardner returning, complemented by the addition of Alexis Pink who a lot of you will know from around the station.

These folks join Alethea Beetson and Sam Kretchmann who were elected at the AGM last year and have another year to run on their terms.

Shout out to Denise Foley who stepped down after ten years on the zed board. An amazing innings!

If you ever want to get in touch with The Board about anything, you can find their details on the zed governance page - 4zzz.org.au/governance

4ZZZ Birthday Party Poster Run

So as I’m sure you’re all well aware of already, we’ve got our 48th Birthday Party on Friday the 8th of December (just a couple of weeks away!).

We’ll be marking this occasion with a battle of the cover bands featuring PhD, The Wayne Keys Show, Slurpee Jerks and Holidays for Hoodies. It’ll be quite the show!

Now we need your help spreading the word. There’s a stack of posters outside of the studio so when you’re in next grab a few and stick them up around your part of town (or drop some into zed friendly businesses).
