Welcome to 4ZZZ’s weekly newsletter for announcers and volunteers.

It can be difficult to keep on top of all of the missives that 4ZZZ HQ disseminates week to week, so in the interest of keeping your inboxes under control and our messaging clear, we’ll be doing our darndest to compile all of our comms into one weekly mailout.

Obviously there will be exceptions from time to time, but consider The Newsletter Formerly Known As your Wednesday  afternoon treat (named so because we expect you to be able to  regurgitate the information herein).

Hello Absolute Legends,

Hope everyone is looking after themselves in the heat and staying hydrated.

It is the strange few days leading up to the New Year so I hope you are getting excited about the Hot 100 Hangout.

This newsletter will be pretty short and sweet but I want to acknowledge the Locked In Crew who were on air for 16 hours on the 25th reading out letters, texts from loved ones and playing requests for people inside.

It is a massive undertaking which takes a lot of planning and work so our thanks go out to everyone who was involved and also to the shows who made space so it could happen.

Also, a shout out to the reception volunteers who came in for the Bonanzzza over the weekend, it was a great day and a lot of people came by for some last minute merch gifts.

It’s all about the original and best countdown now so I'm looking forward to seeing Zedders at the Hot 100 Hangout at The Triffid, kick off at 12pm!

Stay Hydrated,

Catch of the Week - Talking Zeds

Some big names on the Zeds this week including Branko and Alex of Unnecessary Knowledge talking to Keith Morris from Off!.

I am however going to give the three points to Ian with his chat with Dave McCormack on
Talking Zeds.

It was awesome to hear about Custard’s early days, connection with Zed over the years and also the little cartoon he is now involved with.

Also, Ian recorded a few Station ID’s that can be played during your shows with Dave, you can find them in

Station & Program Stings - Station IDs Celebrity - 2021 -2024

Listen back here!

Sub Plug of the Week - Dani on Friday Neon

There were a lot of good sub plugs over the week but the gold is going to go to Dani who was on the mic during Friday Neon filling in for Q.

Dani gave a great plug for the Hot 100 and then got into a breakdown of how $70 is what it costs to produce an hour of radio.

Dani then went onto explain the different sub categories and how the live reads can be really beneficial for bands or businesses.

Loved every moment, thanks Dani!

Top 20 Most Played of 2023

Master Music Statistician Nick Jones has compiled the Top 20 Most Played Artists on 4ZZZ for 2023 and it shows some great stuff.

The top spot was all the artists involved in
House Keys Vol. 2 which was a phenomenal release!

Second spot was
Tia Gostelow with their third album ‘Head Noise’.

Coming in third was
Platonic Sex with their single ‘Melon’.

Check out the list but an all Australian Top 20 with 18 being local? My ears like that.

Thanks Nick!

Hot 100 Hangout!

Did you know there will be a Hot 100 Hangout where you can come and chill with all your mates while listening to the Hot 100?

Well, if you didn’t, now you know to come to The Triffid from midday.

All are welcome, our under 18 friends do have to be off site by 5pm and dogs offsite at 7pm.

Look forward to seeing you there and celebrating a great year of music!

Keep Up The Cleaning!

There is a bit of a rise of COVID out there so just a reminder to look after yourself, stay at home if you’re unwell and to keep up the hygiene cleaning around the station.

There are some masks at the water cooler if you feel like wearing one.

Let’s keep everyone safe!

Thanks for playing along! If you have any big interviews, noteworthy subs shoutouts or particularly heroic volunteering work that deserves a shout out, let me know by emailing manager@4zzz.org.au by 2pm Mondays. Got any burning questions about the studio, station policy or other FAQs? Check the 4ZZZ Wiki out, if accessing from outside of the station use the following loging credentials: zeduser / 4zzzrules. Have a great week connecting and amplifying the voices of our local communities!
