Welcome to 4ZZZ’s weekly newsletter for announcers and volunteers.

It can be difficult to keep on top of all of the missives that 4ZZZ HQ disseminates week to week, so in the interest of keeping your inboxes under control and our messaging clear, we’ll be doing our darndest to compile all of our comms into one weekly mailout.

Obviously there will be exceptions from time to time, but consider The Newsletter Formerly Known As your Monday afternoon treat (named so because we expect you to be able to  regurgitate the information herein).

Happy 2023! I hope you’ve all had a great few weeks over Christmas and the New Year.

Even though it’s a new year, this is the same newsletter (for now). As usual, contained within is everything you need to know about the goings on at zed. Please hit me up if there’s ever anything you want to know or that I can help out with.

Because January is a pretty quiet month we’ve got some folks away. Our Programming coordinator Ian Powne is off this week, so hit me up if you need anything there.

In other important zed staff movements, I’m away from this Friday until the 23rd of January. In my absence hit up whichever zed staffer is best suited to your question, or if none of them can help you email
board@4zzz.org.au for all the boardies, or chair@4zzz.org.au for our chair Alethea, or secretary@4zzz.org.au for our secretary Denise.

Now all that housekeeping is out of the way please read on! There’s exciting news about our new community engagement coordinator and the toilet curtains!

Catch of the Week - Hot 100 Hangout

Pretty hard to go past the Hot 100 broadcast on Sunday as a highlight! It was an absolutely ripper day on-air and at The Triffid, with a huge crowd of folks coming down to hang out.

We had so many people making this such a great day, Jayden led a team of merch vollies (who sold loads of shirts!), there were dozens of announcers, the selfless studio sitters Tina, Judy and Blair, and Pat and Ben making sure everything worked (and were straight into it when there were some hiccups!). Thank you so much to all of you!!!

You can check out the full 100 here. Jump in, have a look and give the countdown a plug

Sub Plug of the Week - Judy Jetson

In between the bangers on Subterranea on Friday Judy Jetson squeezed in a cracker of a sub plug.

It was a really subtle chat about zed and how we’re working towards 50 that segued beautifully into a sub plug. Judy talked up how we’re only here with listener support, and people can support us by subscribing.

She not only gave out the website and phone number, but also reminded folks they can come into the station to subscribe in person (when reception reopens next week mind you).

Welcome to Ez! Our new community engagement coordinator

Very exciting zed news this week as we welcome Ezarco Dos Santos as our new community engagement coordinator.

You might know Ez from Tranzmission on Tuesday mornings or from sharing a merch volunteering shift at a zed event. If you haven’t met him he’s absolutely wonderful and very capable.

While he’s running Tranzmission now, he also built a really efficient team to run Zed Games, his all over podcasting and has outstanding community connections.

Ez will take over Matt’s email and slack presence, so if you need to get in touch with him about anything go for community@4zzz.org.au or search Ez in slack.

Bye Matt (come and have ramen)

The exciting news that Ez has taken on the community engagement coordinator role means that Matt Hsu will soon be leaving us.

Matt has done some really wonderful stuff with the community engagement coordinator role, showcasing your wonderful work, bringing people closer to zed and helping us create some wonderful new relationships.
To say thanks I thought we could do it in a way that I know Matt will love. With food!

If you’re free on Thursday arvo, around 12:30pm, we’re going to head to Taro’s Ramen (Matt’s fave) in the city to drown our sorrows with delicious broth.

Let me know if you’re keen to come along to this. If we get a big response we might have to book a table there!

Loo with a view

Finally today, a very belated thank you to our admin wizard and draper, Ann Ashton, for jazzing up our bathroom.

As I’m sure you’ll remember, the blinds in there were getting a bit battered and bruised, so Ann’s reimagining of some zed teatowels as curtains is very much appreciated.

Please take the time to enjoy the fine needlework and say thanks to Ann if you see her around.

Thanks for playing along! If you have any big interviews, noteworthy subs shoutouts or particularly heroic volunteering work that deserves a shout out, let me know by emailing manager@4zzz.org.au by 2pm Mondays. Got any burning questions about the studio, station policy or other FAQs? Check the 4ZZZ Wiki out, if accessing from outside of the station use the following loging credentials: zeduser / 4zzzrules. Have a great week connecting and amplifying the voices of our local communities!
