Welcome to 4ZZZ’s weekly newsletter for announcers and volunteers.

It can be difficult to keep on top of all of the missives that 4ZZZ HQ disseminates week to week, so in the interest of keeping your inboxes under control and our messaging clear, we’ll be doing our darndest to compile all of our comms into one weekly mailout.

Obviously there will be exceptions from time to time, but consider The Newsletter Formerly Known As your Monday afternoon treat (named so because we expect you to be able to  regurgitate the information herein).

Oh hiiiiii! Hope you've all having a great time. April Atonement is around the corner and I am flat out, so you've got a pretty brief newsletter this week.

If you've got questions, hit me up. Regardless, read on for all your latest zed happening and important things to know.

April Atonement starts this Saturday!

It’s almost here. There are mere days until we enter our month of forgiveness, where we let all those non-subs off the hook and, provided they subscribe, forgive them for their sins.

I’m putting the finishing touches on the Announcer Guide this week, getting the posters printed and drafting the first April Atonement Apprisal to send out on Friday.
We’re hoping to hit the goal of 350 subscribers this year, which is up on the 2022 campaign but I’m confident we can get there.

To help us along to that goal, we’ve got prizes like Nura Headphones, a golden ticket to The Zoo, a 12 month pass to Urban Climb (which is like a full gym, with yoga and stuff) and a Dendy Gold Card (and more!).

We’ve also got some really fun events coming up during the month, with Access All Areas this weekend, a punk show carpark show, maybe a sports day in Moorooka (details to come) and a few gigs from shows.
Speaking of events!

Access All Areas this Sunday!

We’re throwing a fundraiser this weekend! Access All Areas is storming the Triffid with an outstanding lineup this Sunday arvo.

This is raising money to help us make the building more accessible, which is really exciting. We’ve got Doggie Heaven, Darren Hanlon, The Double Happiness and more!

If you’re on air this week, please give this a good shout and point people to our socials or moshtix to buy tickets. It’d be awesome if you could throw this around your socials this week too.

Here’s the ticket link for you to spread around.

Sub Plug of the Week - Radio Reversal

We all know we’re a great place to be a part of, but it’s wonderful to share that with others. That’s why I loved the sub plug on Radio Reversal last week.

There was a great explanation that by listening to zed you’re pretty much already a part of our community, but you can take the next step by subscribing (because who wouldn’t want that warm inner glow bonus).

There was even a follow-up plug a bit later, which is really helpful. That repetition helps reinforce the message, because it’s very likely the same people are still listening.

Great way to head into April Atonement. I’m really excited to hear the creative sub plugs that get dished out over the next month!

Sub numbers are tracking really well at the moment. March last year was a big month, so for us to be in line with that is really impressive! Awesome work!

Album of the Week - Ghost Mutt with Perro Fantasma

This week we’ve got local legends Ghost Mutt taking out Album of the Week.

Here’s the skinny from the AOTW committee:
"4ZZZ has the pleasure of showcasing Ghost Mutt's debut album Perro Fantasma before its official release on Thursday the 30th of March. Their blend of moody rock and dreamy pop is absolutely delightful and are no strangers to Zed! Over the past year they have frequented our weekly top 20 and played the Valley Fiesta car park show. Plus the album artwork was made by 2022 radiothon artist George Levi! What can't they do!"

Primitive Motion cleaned up for our most played new release last week, with Tia Gostelow and Locust Revival rounding out the top 3.

Studio 2 aircon awareness

The saga of the 4ZZZ aircon vs Climate Change continues, with the unit in studio 2 struggling at the moment.

To help this struggle on, please try to limit the number of people in studio 2 to 2 or 3. If there’s a crowd in there it will take the unit hours to try and catch up with.

I know this isn’t ideal, but replacing the unit is really expensive and I’d rather we spend that money on a bigger aircon project that we’re hopefully going to be starting soon anyway.

Please bear with us, but do let me know when it is warm. If it totally gives out we won’t have much of a choice.

Thanks for playing along! If you have any big interviews, noteworthy subs shoutouts or particularly heroic volunteering work that deserves a shout out, let me know by emailing manager@4zzz.org.au by 2pm Mondays. Got any burning questions about the studio, station policy or other FAQs? Check the 4ZZZ Wiki out, if accessing from outside of the station use the following loging credentials: zeduser / 4zzzrules. Have a great week connecting and amplifying the voices of our local communities!
