Welcome to 4ZZZ’s weekly newsletter for announcers and volunteers.

It can be difficult to keep on top of all of the missives that 4ZZZ HQ disseminates week to week, so in the interest of keeping your inboxes under control and our messaging clear, we’ll be doing our darndest to compile all of our comms into one weekly mailout.

Obviously there will be exceptions from time to time, but consider The Newsletter Formerly Known As your Monday afternoon treat (named so because we expect you to be able to  regurgitate the information herein).

Hello Generous Go-Getters,

The first email of February and for those big fans of Feb you’ll be stoked to know that there is even more to come as it is a leap year.

I’m not quite sure how leap years work but I might make this a Know Idea question for this week to get to the bottom of it.

Plenty of action to keep across so make sure to read down below to keep up to date with what’s on around the station.

Also, Album of the Week is back!

Stay Hydrated,
Jack

Catch of the Week: Andy and Jeremy on Talking Zeds

Going to give the nod to Andy Paine this week for the chat with Jeremy Staples all about zines!
It was a great discussion about all things DIY, bringing alternative culture to the regions and how integral zines are to the scene.
It was a very cool discussion and I also loved this line from Andy which paraphrased was ‘the best way to make art is not as a bunch of individuals each in our rooms but as a community where we are supporting and inspiring each other’.
I liked it a lot.

Sub Plug of the Week: Nick on The Chart Show

Our very own Stats Wizard Nick is getting the three points this week for a stellar sub plug which really hit the spot.
Not just content with counting down the top tracks of the week and delivering a Groundhog Day special (why? Who knows, ask him).
Nick also delivered a great sub plug after a new subscriber came into the fold.
Nick gave them a big old shoutout on air and then directed people to the website and added a call out for existing subscribers to subscribe a pet.
The first person to subscribe a groundhog wins a high five.

Top of The Charts and RHRN

In the charts Mitch,Please retained top spot for the week with their latest single ‘Morris Mentum’. Dynamite local hip hop artist Cuckoo Coco took out second place with Saddle Up and HOUSEPLANTS kept their strong run in the charts going, coming third place with Flying Carp.

Also, lighting up Studio 3 this week on Right Here Right Now will be absolute powerhouse performers Bad Sext. An absolute 4ZZZ favourite I am very excited to hear their infectious melodies rattle around the airwaves. Never has a band made me laugh so hard while also making me sing along. Don’t miss out.

AOTW - Metdog Questions and Answers Regarding Computers and Screens

YES! Album of the Week is back for 2024 and I for one am excited. From the AOTW Committee - "We kick off 2024 with a nod and a wink to a musical genre we've come to play a bit lately on 4ZZZ - Egg Punk! Metdog from Melbourne are deep in the circuitry on their latest album 'Questions and Answers Regarding Computers and Screens', and we appreciate all the tech assistance we can get. This frenetic new release from Metdog turns an eye toward the electric eye, appraising the absurdity of the digital age and dismantling the circuitry of usage in the deeply philosophical yet sardonic Metdog fashion. Questions and Answers Regarding Computers and Screens is the first Metdog record to feature live drums, with production steered collaboratively between the 4-piece and guitar pop master Tom Pleasance of Dog Door. This is breaking new ground for the band, yet we still get the same consistently quirky and high-energy sonics we have come to know and love from Metdog.
