🍍 Honouring local legend Rod McLeod 🍍

We are saddened to hear about the passing of Rod McLeod from The Pineapples from the Dawn of Time.
Such an icon of the Brisbane scene, Rod on the bass for The Pineapples was such an important part of Zed’s music scene in the 80s.

The Pineapples’ track Too Much Acid was such a fan favourite it ranked in the Hot 100 for many years after its release.

Their impact was so important they were asked to reform for the station's 25th Anniversary show and have always been such a loyal supporter of 4ZZZ.

Our condolences go out to Rod’s family, friends and also to the band.

Vale local supporter and friend of Zed, Rod McLeod.

☕ Coffee Brigade Service Expansion ☕

For the past 53 years, the Coffee Brigade has been providing free coffee, sandwiches, and snacks to anyone in need around town. Our purpose-built van visits 3 locations each morning; Fortitude Valley, Kangaroo Point, and Spring Hill, and serves anywhere between 50 to 100 friends each morning.
As Christmas rolls around, a lot of food provision and support services in West End are closing, leaving a large number of people without access to meals. To help meet this rising demand, the Coffee Brigade van will be going to Bunyapa Park from 8:20am – 8:45am every morning between 26th of Dec to the 6th of Jan.

So if you’re in need of a bite and drink during those low service periods around town you know where to go 😊

✊🏽 Calls to Action from Palestinian Activists ✊🏽

From the Deify Collective

Here is a link to a document that is an effort to collectivise calls to action from Palestinian activists and cross-solidarity movements within so-called australia, as well as grassroots knowledge around safety, accessibility and community care. It features actions you can take from home and in the streets, information on protest rights, privacy and safety strategies, holding institutions accountable, mutual aid initiatives, Palestinian history, culture and arts, and more. The toolkit is constantly evolving, and we welcome your feedback.

Settler-colonial states manufacture and rely on our despair, paralysis, and compliance to perpetuate themselves. Their death-making power may seem overwhelmingly vast, but it is a power that feeds off our silence. In the face of these systems that deem certain bodies ungrievable and expendable, we must remember that our potential to sustain life multiplies exponentially when we fight together.
